Ultrafast internal conversion without energy crossing
نویسندگان
چکیده
Ultrafast (sub-picosecond) internal conversion can occur between electronic states without energetically accessible conical intersections. For that, the molecule must remain in a region of at least weak nonadiabatic coupling, multiplying odds transition, each with small probability. This phenomenon is discussed simple analytical model correlating instantaneous probability to lifetime.

Thioxanthone in apolar solvents: ultrafast internal conversion precedes fast intersystem crossing.
The photophysics of thioxanthone dissolved in cyclohexane was studied by femtosecond fluorescence and transient absorption spectroscopy. From these experiments two time constants of ∼400 fs and ∼4 ps were retrieved. With the aid of quantum chemically computed spectral signatures and rate constants for intersystem crossing, the time constants were assigned to the underlying processes. Ultrafast ...
متن کاملUltrafast decay of the excited singlet states of thioxanthone by internal conversion and intersystem crossing.
The experimental ultrafast photophysics of thioxanthone in several aprotic organic solvents at room temperature is presented, measured using femtosecond transient absorption together with high-level ab initio CASPT2 calculations of the singlet- and triplet-state manifolds in the gas phase, including computed state minima and conical intersections, transition energies, oscillator strengths, and ...
متن کاملCrossing the Phantom Divide: Dark Energy Internal Degrees of Freedom
Dark energy constraints have forced viable alternatives that differ substantially from a cosmological constant Λ to have an equation of state w that evolves across the phantom divide set by Λ. Naively, crossing this divide makes the dark energy gravitationally unstable, a problem that is typically finessed by unphysically ignoring the perturbations. While this procedure does not affect constrai...
متن کاملVibrational energy redistribution in glyoxal following internal conversion
The vibrational redistribution of energy following internal conversion in glyoxal has been studied in a molecular beam using the "pump-and-probe" technique. A beam of glyoxal is initially pumped from So to a selected vibronic level of Sl. After internal conversion occurs, a tunable dye laser is used to probe the hot band absorption of the molecules by re-excitation into Sl. The total fluorescen...
متن کاملUltrafast internal conversion in a low band gap polymer for photovoltaics: experimental and theoretical study.
Ultrafast dynamics upon photoexcitation in a low band gap polymer for photovoltaics is investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Our work sheds light on the excess energy relaxation processes occurring immediately after photon absorption and responsible for dissipation in the photovoltaic process of light harvesting and energy storage. A peculiar non-adiabatic decay path through a con...
